See Strečno and Malá Fatra from the river
Sit back and enjoy the scenery while our two-person crew steers the wooden raft. This is a gentle sightseeing trip, not white-water rafting, and you do not need any rafting experience. Ask us about available commentary languages before booking.
The route combines nature, living tradition and views that are difficult to experience from the road or hiking trails. It is an easy addition to a day near Žilina, Strečno, Terchová or Malá Fatra.

A traditional wooden raft
Experience the Váh as travellers once did, aboard a wooden raft crewed by local raftsmen rather than a sports raft.
Two castles above the river
See Strečno Castle and Starý hrad from the water as the river passes through the narrow gorge.
Stories of the Váh
The raftsmen provide commentary during the trip, connecting the landscape with local legends and rafting heritage.

A northern Slovakia road trip
Strečno can be a scenic stop if your route through northern Slovakia passes the Žilina–Strečno area. Check your route and a confirmed departure before travelling.
Combine your raft trip with Strečno Castle
Begin with the traditional raft trip, then continue to Strečno Castle for a closer look at the history above the river. Depending on your plans, complete the day in Žilina or continue into Malá Fatra and the Terchová area. Because opening times and departure schedules can change, check the current details before your visit.
Simple itinerary: traditional raft trip on the Váh → Strečno Castle → Žilina or Malá Fatra.
A relaxed experience for many kinds of visitors
The trip is popular with families, couples, older visitors, small groups, international travellers and organised groups. No previous rafting experience is required because the raft is operated by the crew. If you have questions about young children, mobility or a specific group requirement, contact us before booking so we can advise you based on current conditions.
Things to do near Žilina and in Malá Fatra
Looking for an authentic Slovak experience between mountain walks and castle visits? A traditional wooden raft trip on the Váh brings together local heritage, two medieval castles and the scenery of the Strečno Gorge. No paddling is required: the raftsmen operate the raft.
Don’t just visit Strečno Castle. See it from the Váh River.
Combine the raft trip with a separate visit to Strečno Castle. The castle and the raft operator are separate businesses; castle admission is not included in the raft ticket. Check castle opening times independently.
Žilina – Strečno – Terchová: plan your day
If you are staying in Žilina or Terchová, reserve a confirmed departure before travelling to Gazdovský dvor in Strečno. After the river trip, choose a castle visit, a walk in Žilina or time in the Malá Fatra region. With 2–3 hours free, allow for check-in, the minibus transfer, the 50–90 minute trip and the walk back; ask us whether your available time fits the confirmed departure.
Travelling towards the High Tatras?
Strečno can be a rewarding stop if your chosen route takes you through the Žilina–Strečno area. It is not on every route to the High Tatras. Check your navigation and reserve first: motorway routes may bypass the village, and the current departure schedule determines whether a stop is practical.
A family activity without paddling
Couples, families, seniors and groups can enjoy the scenery while the crew steers. For very young children or anyone who needs help boarding, contact us before booking. Confirm the available commentary language in advance.
